We file and manage IP rights across Tanzania, Zanzibar, and throughout East and Central Africa — both through national filings and through the ARIPO and OAPI regional systems.
The Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) administers trademarks, patents and industrial designs on mainland Tanzania. We are registered practitioners at BRELA and handle all filings directly.
The Business and Property Registration Agency (BPRA) is the separate IP registry for Zanzibar. A BRELA registration does not extend to Zanzibar — if you trade in Zanzibar, you need a separate BPRA registration. We are qualified to file directly at BPRA.
The African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) administers two main protocols covering trademarks (Banjul Protocol) and patents/designs (Harare Protocol). A single ARIPO application can designate multiple member states.
The Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI) covers 17 mainly Francophone African states including Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and Congo. Unlike ARIPO, OAPI functions as a single unified territory — registration is effective in all member states simultaneously.
We develop tailored East Africa IP protection strategies combining national filings, ARIPO and OAPI registrations to give you the best coverage at the most competitive cost.
